What is Biosecurity?

Biosecurity is all the measures we take to prevent and manage the spread of infectious diseases in animal populations. 

For backyard poultry, the biggest risks for your birds getting sick are:

  • contact with wild birds or wildlife that may be carrying disease
  • introducing new birds into your flock
  • contact with family, friends, and visitors who have birds of their own
